Are Connecticut’s 52 Wendy’s Locations in Danger of Closing?
For my money Wendy's makes the best burger in the fast-food game. While many people feel that way, it does not necessarily mean they are secure. I just found out that Wendy's might be in a bit of trouble.
A colleague of mine in Albany recently published news that Wendy's has closed 27 U.S. locations this year and there are 100 more closures to come. The news came out of the Q1 earnings press release that also states the company has plans to open between 200-300 locations in 2024.
What does it mean for Connecticut?
There are 52 Nutmeg State Wendy's restaurants in Connecticut. They have them everywhere from Bloomfield, to Windsor Locks and beyond. There are even a bunch right here in the Greater-Danbury area like:
- Brookfield
- New Milford
- Norwalk (3)
Eat This, Not That reached out to the fast-food giant for comment and has yet to get an answer back so it looks like we'll have to wait for an answer on what is to come for the Constitution State.
Why is Wendy's in Trouble?
I don't read earnings reports, it hurts my delicate brain but I do have a nose for trouble and I smelled something fishy when the idea of "dynamic pricing" hit the press. A while back someone floated the idea that Wendy's would alter their prices based on peak and off-peak time periods and the internet went bananas. Eventually they told NPR and other media outlets they were not going that direction. Wendy's Vice President Heidi Schauer had this to say to NPR back in February:
To clarify, Wendy's will not implement surge pricing, which is the practice of raising prices when demand is highest. We didn't use that phrase, nor do we plan to implement that practice.
If it's a rumor, where did it start? I think they floated it to see if the public would care and they backed away as soon as people started losing their minds. Look, thoughts and prayers all the way around. I hope every human and corporation gets what they want in life, forever. Best of luck to everyone involved.
