Why Is a Russian Spy Ship Hanging Out off the Coast of Connecticut?

It's like a page out of the cold war. A Russian spy ship was spotted today (Feb. 15) just 30 miles south of the Navel Submarine base in Groton.

Ever since I can remember, especially growing up through the 60s and early 70s, the push and shove battle between the United States and Russia was almost a daily occurrence. Today, in what looks like the latest aggressive action from Russian President, Vladimir Putin, a Russian spy ship called Viktor Leonov, has been discovered patrolling about 30 miles south of the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT.

According to wtnh.com, the ship has been working its way up the coast over the last few days and was spotted off the coast of Delaware on Monday. The U.S. Navy is carefully monitoring the situation, and neither the Groton Base or the nearby Millstone nuclear power plant have been given any special security instructions at this time.

courant.com, officials are concerned since Russian jets recently buzzed a U.S. Navy ship in the Black Sea, and Russia has also recently deployed a cruise missile, which is a blatant violation of our arms control treaty. According to multiple sources, including wtnh.com, the ship is likely heading towards Cuba when it's done trolling off the East Coast.
