Greater Danbury Police Torch Run to Affect Traffic, Expect Delays

Members of the New Milford, Brookfield, Danbury, Bethel, and Newtown Police Departments will all be participating in the Connecticut Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Friday morning, June 7.

Since the Torch run will be happening throughout the morning commute on Friday, Police are urging motorists to expect delays and also please be mindful of the runners.

The run starts on the Green in New Milford and will head up Danbury Road/Route 7 to the Faith Church, where the New Milford Police Department will pass the Torch off to the Brookfield Police.

From there, the run heads south on Federal Road towards KFC. At KFC, the Danbury Police Department will be taking over and heading southbound on Federal Rd.

The runners will then travel westbound on White St. to Crosby St and turn south onto Main St., then continue southbound on Main St. turning eastbound on South St. The Officers will continue on South St. to the Bethel line, where they plan to hand the torch over to the Bethel Police Department.

Bethel Police will then continue the run south on Route 53 and take the Torch down route 302 to the Dodgingtown Market in Newtown, where the Torch will be passed off to Newtown Police.

Then, the run converges with other Friday runs and the Olympic "Flame of Hope" makes its way to New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University for the opening ceremonies of the games.

The 51st annual Connecticut Special Olympics will be going on all weekend, and will feature over 2,500 Athletes and Unified Teammates, 500 Coaches and 2,900 Volunteers.
