An employee of the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles has allegedly worked with a car dealership in Stamford, reselling stolen automobiles with falsified titles.

According to the CT Post, the owner of the dealership, Classic Auto Sales, has left the United States and authorities say he is in his home country of Ecuador.

It started with a complaint that lead to an investigation, which revealed that 135 cars were reportedly taken from the Hartford Springfield Auto Auction and not paid for. Even though the vehicles had not legally changed ownership and were still considered property of the auto auction because no money had changed hands, the cars were all re-sold in short order. They had been allegedly re-registered with falsified titles issued by the DMV. Police say those titles were generated by 45-year-old Aarron Soares of Bridgeport, who was employed at the DMV for many years.

What kills me here is the CT Post reported that he was making $87,000 annually for his work there. This guy was blessed with a really good job, with good pay and benefits. What compelled him to do this? We may never know. SMH!
