Police: Connecticut Man Accused of Stabbing Waterbury Walmart Employee for No Apparent Reason
Things got a little crazy at the Walmart in Waterbury this past Sunday (January 10). Okay, things got a lot crazy, as police say a Connecticut man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a Walmart employee for no apparent reason.
According to NBC CT, emergency personnel was called to Waterbury Walmart located at 910 Wolcott Street at around 12:15 pm, when they received a report that a cashier was stabbed by a man.
Officials say that the cashier was scanning a gallon of milk for a customer and after she told him the price, the accused man, later identified as 40-year-old Hichman Asfir of Stamford, allegedly walked over, grabbed the unidentified 19-year-old cashier by her hair, and stabbed her with a folding knife on the side of her head.
Authorities stated that after he stabbed the cashier, he dropped the knife and sat down as he waited for police. The cashier was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital for non-life threatening conditions, where she remains in reportedly stable condition.
Officials say the motive for the stabbing is unclear and that the victim and the accused do not know each other.
Asfir is being charged with assault and breach of peace, and was held on a $500,000 bond pending arraignment.
