This 6-Year-Old Mix From New Milford is Our Latest Pet of the Week
If you know your Italian or Spanish, then you know the word luna means the moon, but in New Milford, Luna stands for love and you'll get a lot of it with our latest Pet of the Week.
Here are the details about Luna. She is a six year old 70 pound, spayed female. She has the coat of a shepherd, the eyes of a husky and a tongue of a chow. Luna came to New Milford and the Animal Welfare Society from a rescue in Puerto Rico.
Luna gets along well with other dogs, children and maybe even cats, but don't count on the later due to this breeds high prey drive. She will have entropion eye surgery, which is a minor surgery fixing her eye lashes which grow inward. This is a very common surgery, but it will be complete before she becomes available for adoption.
Of course, all pets available for adoption at the Animal Welfare Society are always up to date on their vaccines too.
Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, if you're interested in adopting one of the featured pets, any dog or cat at the shelter, you must first fill out an application on their website at aws-shelter.org. Once your application is approved, you can call them at 860-354-1350 and schedule your one-on-one limited contact meeting.
The shelter is always in need of items to help keep the animals safe and clean. Right now, they are looking for bleach, paper towels and dry cat food.
If you can contribute, you can drop off the items at the shelter at 8 Dodd Road in New Milford. Just let them know you're going to drop something off, and you can do it with no contact by just leaving it in front of their building. You can also check the Animal Welfare website for their Amazon wish list, and have the items delivered right to the shelter.
