Golfer Attacked By Bobcat On Connecticut Course
A foursome of golfers experienced a very unique and terrifying outing Thursday morning when one of them suffered injuries from being attacked by a bobcat.
According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the golfer was near the area of the seventh hole at Mohegan Sun Golf Course when the bobcat jumped on his back. The man was reportedly able to fight off the animal with his club and it ran off, but not before the man suffered a few injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment at around 9:00 AM.
As for the bobcat, DEEP says they were able to locate it and it was subsequently euthanized in fear that it would attack again. Officials say that these type of attacks are specifically rare, and in the event that they do happen, it's usually because the animal is rabid. Sgt. Chris Dwyer of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection told WFSB:
In my 20 years with the DEEP I’ve only had 3 rabid bobcats. They are extremely aggressive, extremely vicious when they do have the rabies virus. Not saying that it does, but it will be tested. This time usually those types of incidents are associated with a sick animal.
Officials also mentioned that the same bobcat attacked a horse that was near the golf course earlier in the morning.
