Hmmm.. I don't know how I feel about this.

I would like to call myself a donut connoisseur. I love going around and trying local donut shops. I have so many more I need to try, but I do always stop when I can. When I travel, I make it a point to visit different shops in the local area and see what theirs have to offer.

When trying to figure out where I should go, Yelp is great place to to start. They are great at making lists and helping us decide what places are the best and which can do better. People are really dedicated to yelp and posting their reviews and it's honestly very helpful when trying to decide where you want to go.

Yelp came out with a list of the Top 50 Donut Shops in the U.S. according to elites and I was very surprised to see that Connecticut did not land on that list once. We've gotten plenty of national attention for different foods in our state and we've even been praised for our donuts, too. Neil's Donuts in Wallingford and Middletown has been on plenty of best lists. Dottie's Diner in Woodbury has received national attention, Rise Doughnuts has seen national (and celebrity) attention, and so many more.

Why were we left off of this list? I need to know. I will say, my favorite donuts ever from Rhode Island didn't even make the list. What's going on here? The number 1 donut shop was Novel Ice Cream out of Phoenix, AZ and number 2 was HOLE - Hot Doughnuts out of Asheville, NC.

I'm going to take this list with me next time I'm away and will start trying some of these places and see if they live up to the hype. I think I need to become one of these people that Yelps my way through the food scene.

Have you been to any on that list? Do we think Connecticut deserved to be stiffed? I don't.
