Firefighters reportedly arrived within 8 minutes of receiving the call and battled stiff winds as they arrived on scene to fight the blaze. The fire was brought under control after an hour and a half battle, but the damage it did may result in a total loss of the building.

For those unfamiliar, Matunuck Oyster Bar is a Legendary New England seafood restaurant that has received national accolades with their aqua farm to table business model. Matunuck grows their oysters at their aquafarm on nearby Potter's Pond, and they've received rave reviews from everyone from Conde Nast to the New York Times, often being mentioned as one of the finest oyster/rawbar/seafood restaurants in America.

The last time that I went, I ordered Matunuck's Point Judith Calamari, which was different from the Connecticut blend of calamari of Gorgonzola and cherry peppers with the addition of capers. The docks of Point Judith are only a couple of miles away from Matunuck, the quality of their seafood is amazing.

Even with the reported total loss of their restaurant, Matunuck will absolutely emerge from this devastating loss. There were no reports of any injuries, hopefully it will be a relatively quick rebuild.
