Moose Frolics Across Front Lawn Surprising Hyde Park, New York Family
What a sight to see! It's not every day you see a moose frolicking in your front yard.
Earlier this week, we started hearing rumblings of a moose sighting in Dutchess County. Allegedly there was a moose caught on trail cam, but we couldn't nail down a confirmation. However, it looks like we can confirm it now!
Moose Surprises Hyde Park, NY Neighborhood
Julia Truitt of Hyde Park, New York shared with us video and photos of a large moose in her front yard. At around 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning September 20th, 2023 Truitt noticed something strolling by her window. We asked if there was a noise or something that alerted her to the moose being in her front yard and she told us:
I thought it was a horse walking by my window at first. He was very tall! Breathtaking animal.
Adding "I just happened to see him pass by my bedroom window." She then snapped a few photos and a video of said moose prancing across her front yard and darting into the woods.
Watch as this Hyde Park moose frolics across a front yard:
Looks to us like this moose might be a little far from home.
Moose Sightings in The Hudson Valley
Moose are common in New York, however, not specifically in the Hudson Valley. The DEC writes "In New York, most moose are located in the northeastern part of the state in the Adirondack Mountains and the Taconic Highlands along the Massachusetts and Vermont borders." When it comes to moose sightings the Department of Environmental Conservation stresses not getting too close to them.
Moose are also considered a protected species in New York State which means it's illegal to hunt them. So if you're out hunting and spot one, the best thing to do is notify the DEC as they ask you to document each sighting through their website.
