Living (and Some Dead) Sharks Found in Basement of Hudson Valley Home

It wasn't a stunt for shark week back in August when ten sharks were found in Lagrangeville, Dutchess County, New York. Three had died seven were alive, and were removed from the makeshift shark tank, in a home in the Hudson Valley, according to Time.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has stepped in and removed the marine life, discovered in a 15-foot-diameter above ground pool in a basement holding the live sandbar, and dead leopard sharks, as well as one dead hammerhead shark. Experts guess that these sharks were being sold illegally.

All are now at the Long Island Aquarium where they are being cared for and have a more appropriate home. There have been no charges filed, but there is an investigation underway regarding the sharks in the what led up to their recovery.
