WestConn Taps Villanova For Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

The Western Connecticut State University Men's Basketball team has hired a new assistant coach for the upcoming season, and he hails from Villanova.

The WestConn men's basketball team has hired a Division 1, Big East Conference assistant coach with quite a resume.

Western's men's basketball head coach, Guy Rancourt, just announced the hiring of Nolan Meehan, who will be filling the assistant coaching position left vacant when Cooper Tinsley left the program to take a coaching job at Fordham University.

Meehan, who had been working under Villanova head coach, Jay Wright, since 2017,  was part of three Big East regular season championships, and three Big East Tournament championships. Plus, Meehan was part of three Villanova teams that appeared in the NCAA March Madness Tournament. He help guide the team to one sweet 16 appearance, one Final Four appearance, and one National Championship.

Meehan also served as an assistant coach under Baker Dunleavy at Quinnipiac, and under Ashley Howard at LaSalle.

With WestConn Men's Basketball viewed as one of the top Division III programs in the nation, the addition of Meehan couldn't have come at a better time for head coach Guy Rancourt, who through a University press release, had this to say about Nolan joining the staff:

I couldn’t be happier to add someone of Nolan’s ability to our staff. Coach Wright at Villanova strongly believes Nolan will help our players develop and keep WestConn performing at a championship level.

Meehan's job at WestConn will see him involved in all day-to-day operations, team travel, recruiting, and game preparation.

As of now, WestConn will start their Little East Conference season at the O'Neil Center on January 5th versus UMass Boston. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all pre-season games, and the Holiday Tournament have been postponed.
