The State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Fisheries Division has just released it's annual list of Trophy Fish for 2022. The CT DEEP gives out awards to the anglers that landed the largest freshwater and saltwater fish around Connecticut.

The awards were given out in two categories: Harvest, or Catch and Release. The winners were further broken down into Male, Female, and Youth. In the Male Catch & Release category, the largest by length largemouth bass caught in Connecticut in 2022 measured 24 inches long, and the two-footer was caught and released by Travis Lawlor on Lake Quassapaug. The longest largemouth bass in Connecticut is going to be watching you the next time you dip your toes at the MRA.

And a huge congratulations to Alexander Daignault, who caught two of the biggest freshwater fish of 2022, both on Lake Zoar. Daignault caught and released the longest Northern Pike, which measured 42 inches, and also caught a 30 inch Walleye, which is a new state record.

If you want the highest concentration of the biggest freshwater fish in Connecticut, you have to go to the Connecticut River, where the largest-by-length Bowfin, Channel Catfish, Common Carp, and Smallmouth Bass were all caught in 2022. Candlewood Lake you ask? Jerry Feng set a new state record when he caught a 15.20 inch White Perch there last year.

They were all caught and released, I hope they made it through the rest of 2022.
