Registration fees are being waived during a few weekends in March.

Snowmobiling is an extremely popular winter activity in the Hudson Valley and beyond. There are some amazing trails to ride on that start in the Hudson Valley, up through the North Country, and over to Western New York.

To legally ride a snowmobile in the state of New York each "sled" must be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles to legally ride on any trails and if any out of state snowmobiler wants to ride in New York, they normally also must apply for an out of state registration.

Those out-of-state registration fees are now being waived according to Governor Kathy Hochul's website as the Governor has announced that for the weekends of March 5-6 and March 12-13 out of state snowmobilers will be able to ride on New York's 10,500 miles of snowmobile trails for free.

During these weekends the normal requirement to register all out-of-state snowmobiles is waived as long as the snowmobile is properly insured and registered in their home state/Canadian Province. Riders must also carry applicable insurance that is required by their home state while riding in New York.
