As a Dog person through and through, I have to applaud the efforts of Elinore Carbone, the Mayor of my hometown Torrington, Connecticut. Not only has she put out a call to find the Best Looking Dog in Torrington, the city is also exploring the possibility of creating Torrington's own version of the famous 'Rainbow Bridge'.

Do you hope to meet your long-lost dog at the 'Rainbow Bridge' when it's all over? Yeah, me too. According to legend, the Rainbow Bridge is a lush meadow where animals wait for their humans to join them, and the Rainbow Bridge is what takes them all to Heaven together. Over the weekend, Mayor Carbone published a great idea that a couple of residents recently suggested on the Mayor's official social media account. The idea? Create a real Rainbow Bridge in town for residents to enjoy. The "Over the Rainbow Bridge' project would convert a trail spur off of an existing trail in Torrington's Toro Park into Torrington's Rainbow Bridge. I live across the Naugatuck River from Toro Park, here's a photo from yesterday.

Mayor Carbone gave credit for the idea to two residents that volunteer their time, and this community project will happen through the work of the city's volunteers and our donations. If you'd like to help out and donate, make a check out to The City of Torrington, Memo: Over the Rainbow Bridge - Torrington City Hall, 140 Main Street, 06790.

While you're mulling a donation, Mayor Carbone is also on the lookout for the Best Looking Dog in Torrington. The reigning champ, 2023's Ellie Mae, is ready to relinquish her tiara, so bring your handsome pup pics to the Torrington City Clerk's Office before noon on May 31, 2024, or you can e-mail it to heather_abraham@torringtonct.org.
