Who Knew Volunteer Firemen in Connecticut Were Such Great Chefs?
I've been inhaling the famous roast beef sandwiches that the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department members serve up during the Bridgewater Country Fair for a long time. I noticed something - If you want to take the night off from cooking, keep your eyes open for your local volunteer fire department's food fundraiser, they're great chefs.
There are two opportunities for you to help support a local volunteer fire department in Connecticut over the next few weeks, and all you have to do it eat.
The first is happening this weekend in Connecticut's Northwest corner. This Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 4-7PM, Lakeville Hose Company #1, the volunteer fire company that provides fire protection services for the Town of Salisbury, Connecticut, will hold it's 50th annual chicken BBQ dinner. For the low prices of $16 for Adults, $14 for Seniors, and $10 for the kids, you will receive a half of a BBQ chicken, potato salad, baked beans, and a dessert. The event is Dine-in or Take out, and local delivery is available on request. Hungry? Reserve your smoky bird by calling Larry at 860-806-9643.
Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue is going bigger, with a huge two day event called LobsterFest 2024. On June 7 & 8, the volunteers will be serving up full lobster or steak dinners for $35 in advance, or $40 at the door. The lobster or steak dinner will include corn on the cob, potato salad, chowder, and a beverage. You want a surf and turf dinner? Ask, they might be able to accommodate. Hot dog and Hamburger dinners will also be available for $10. The event will also feature both a full bar and raw bar, where drinks, steamers, raw clams, and shrimp will be available for extra $$$.
