Wow, here’s some good news just when we need it.

Crime was down for the first six months of 2017 in Danbury. Word has it that crime rates were 15% lower than this same time period last year, according to the Newstimes, and the City Council’s report as of August 1.

It was down among many different sectors, including homicide, forcible rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson, which took place a total 501 times from January through June. These numbers represent a downturn from the previous year’s count of 595 in those categories.

The report's statistics show that the month of June was a particularly good month, as crime in the eight sectors mentioned above was down 25%.

More good news to take in — Danbury is cited by state officials as one of the state’s most safe cities. Most of us are not used to hearing good news about crime. Let's hope there's more good news to come.
