Connecticut’s Tax Free Week is Coming, With Some Bizarre Exemptions

Each year the State of Connecticut is kind enough to drop the sales tax for a whole week to save us some money.

Oh yeah, it's a huge windfall, we get just over 6% off anything under $100. Isn't that kind of the overlords that run this state? The sales tax free week runs from Sunday August 20th until Saturday August 26th. Here are some items you can save on at the register:

• Aprons
• Blouses
• Dresses
• Garters
• Leg Warmers
• Scarves
• Square Dancing Clothes
• Swimsuits

Basically, if you want to dress like a 1950's housewife, you're going to save a butt load of money.

Here are items that you still have to pay tax on during "sales tax-free week":

• Athletic Supporters
• Ice Skates
• Martial Arts Attire
• Roller Skates
• Shin Guards
• Ski Pants
• Wet Suits

So, if your kid is into sports you're s--- out of luck. The state obviously has no love for athletics or they are in bed with big sports apparel. Can anyone explain to me how these decisions are made? Who decides ear muffs are tax free but shower caps are not?

I don't even like to talk about the cost of living here, it's a sore subject. If I talk about it, I have to be reminded that no matter how hard I work I'm one bad day away from living on the street. I would spend more time being concerned with it if I thought it would ever get better but it's only going to get worse.
