Connecticut Should Have a State Dog for Each of Our Counties

There's a proposed Bill - No. 729 - to the General Assembly in Connecticut from Senator Eric Berthel. The Bill proposes that the Siberian Husky be established as the state dog of Connecticut. Can you hear Jonathon yipping all the way from Las Vegas?

I think we should consider a bulldog, right? Handsome Dan XIX, Yale University's current mascot should also be considered a prime candidate for the Dog of Connecticut. Maybe the French Bulldog too? Frenchies are on every street in Connecticut.

I think you have to look into their characteristics and traits. I can tell you from experience that the Siberian Husky is not the easiest or friendliest breed. I had one in the 1980's, and he attacked our cable tv installer, even bit his earlobe off. King was very tough to control, and always needed something to occupy himself. Huskies are typical working breeds, and they love to dig. Is that Connecticut? The land of soft remote workers?

I own a Chihuahua, and I think they would make a great choice as the Dog of Connecticut. They're small, just like our state, and they fear no one, no matter the size differential. Chihuahuas are affectionate, and are fiercely loyal to their owners. Very intelligent, and can be aggressive if you provoke them, just like Richard Blumenthal.

Then again, French Bulldogs are the #1 breed in the United States, and damn they're cute. Maybe we should break up Connecticut by counties? Make Handsome Dan the State Dog of New Haven County, Jonathon the Husky the State Dog of Tolland/Windham Counties, and a Frenchie as Fairfield and Litchfield County.
