When you have growing pains, sometimes you just need some space. The Bethel Police Department has outgrown its space, and then some.

Often, it takes a whole lot of time to see a plan come to life. After years and years of discussions and various proposals, it seems as if the Bethel Police Department will finally be able to get out of cramped quarters.

The Bethel Police Department is currently located on Plumtrees Road. Not only have they outgrown it, but it's plagued by numerous problems like an outdated surveillance system and flooding when it rains.

From bethel-ct.gov, a second proposal was presented at a public meeting in December of 2015. In a story from the betheladvocate.com, Bethel voters passed the proposal to build the new facilities that will be located on Judd Avenue.

In a post on the Facebook page for the Bethel Police Department the public is invited to the ground breaking ceremony for the spot the department will eventually call home. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 6 p.m. at 12 Judd Avenue.

Site work is due to start very soon, which I'm sure is a major relief to all those involved.
