2017 CMA Awards Nominees Announced
The 2017 CMA Awards nominees have been announced, and there are some surprises and newcomers among the familiar names we expected to see. Dustin Lynch and Brothers Osborne teamed up to announce the initial CMA Awards nominations during a special Labor Day broadcast of Good Morning America on Monday (Sept. 4).
Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban are among the multiple nominees, with Lambert up for Female Vocalist, Album, Single, Song and Music Video of the Year, and Urban vying for Male Vocalist, Song, Single, Music Video and Entertainer of the Year.
Lauren Alaina is up for New Artist of the Year, and Brothers Osborne are nominated for Vocal Duo and Music Video of the Year. One glaring fact of the 2017 CMA Awards nominations is the absence of a single female artist from the Entertainer of the Year nominees, which speaks volumes to the difficult time female artists are having in country music right now and over the last several years.
Lambert is the only solo female nominated for Single, Song or Album of the Year in 2017, though Little Big Town are also nominated in all three as a group.
2017 Taste of Country RISERS artist Brett Young has earned his first CMA nomination for New Artist of the Year. His success is no surprise to ToC readers; we knew he was a star when he performed "In Case You Didn't Know" on the RISERS set and followed it with a stunning cover of "Hallelujah."
The 2017 CMA Awards are set to air on Wednesday, Nov. 8 on ABC, with Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood returning to co-host for the tenth straight year.
