Unless your ready to hop in the car and drive at least an hour or more, there's just no outlet stores in the area where you can shop and save like you can in other area's of the state.

Recently the city of East Hartford announced plans to start development for outlet shops at Rentschler Field.

According to courant.com, this is the first retail development on the property since Cabela's opened their doors back in 2007. The outlet shops are just the beginning in the development of a new "lifestyle center" that will also include housing, entertainment venues and restaurants.

The developer, Horizon Group Properties currently operates eight outlet locations around the country and features stores like American Eagle, Brooks Brothers, Coach, Gap, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfiger, and more.

Even though we do have some of the most retail locations in Western Connecticut, there are no local outlet locations that are close by, so for now, you still have to get ready to drive to shop and save.. The closest ones to our area are Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets in Clinton, Connecticut, Tanger Outlets, which has two locations, at Foxwoods Casino, and Westbrook, Connecticut. In New York the nearest outlet location is Woodbury Common in Central Valley, New York.

With commercial property in Greater Danbury mostly being developed into condo's, there's just no place to go locally that offers the kind of bargains and deals that the outlet stores do.

So I got to thinking, if there was the possibility to bring one of these outlet malls to Greater Danbury, what stores would you like to see featured. Right now it's just a fantasy, but I'm sure one day new space will become available, and we may actually be talking about turning this dream into a reality.
