A woman traveling from Texas to Maine is accused of trying to sell an unregistered gun in the Hudson Valley for gas money.

Recently, The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a representative of the Precision Armory gun store located on Route 52 in the Town of Kent, NY. The caller reported that a woman was trying to sell a handgun, but lacked the required documentation to legally possess the firearm.

Authorities responded and found the woman, 50-year-old Theresa A. Sager of Maine, as she was leaving the gun store.

Sager was allegedly found to be in possession of two unregistered handguns, .32 caliber revolver and a .380 caliber semiautomatic pistol.

Sager told officials that she got the guns while Texas. While moving back to Maine, she tried to sell a firearm for gas money to continue her trip, police say.

She was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. Sager was arraigned in Town of Southeast Court and released on her own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Kent Court.

If found guilty, she could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 on each count.
