I've always loved seeing the Manhattan skyline from a distance. I geek out when I can see the Empire State Building from Westport, the beacon of light coming off of One World Trade. To me, Manhattan is one of the wonders of the world, and it's an amazing sight.

When I worked in Norwalk in 2001, my co-worker lived on the water in Darien, and he had a magnificent view of New York City, rising out of the distance across Long Island Sound. His house was worth north of a couple of million, and his lawn wasn't built for skyline-gazers like me. So, I pose this question - Where is the best public place in Fairfield County that offers a view of the Manhattan skyline?

I don't feel like knocking on a resident's door and asking them if they minded if I stood in their backyard, or from their third story window. I'm just looking for suggestions from you for a public spot, maybe a rooftop bar in Stamford? The SoNo Collection in Norwalk? The top floor of the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater parking lot at 2 AM? The end of a dead end road on Shippan Point? The Port Jeff ferry at night? I've been to the 9/11 Memorial in Westport's Sherwood Island State Park, and on clear days, Manhattan is very visible across the Sound.

Maybe it's the top of a hill in Norwalk? If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I just think it's a special thing that we live this close to the Greatest City on Earth.
