CT Is Now Being Nationally Recognized for Safe Animal Crossings

Stacker and The FW recently published findings from State Farm's Annual Animal Collision Study.

The purpose of the study was to determine the states where it is most likely for a driver to collide with an animal. The data comes directly from State Farm customers collision claims for the time period between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022.

What they found was interesting, it turns out the likelihood of colliding with an animal is the highest in West Virginia where 1 in 35 drivers hit an animal. Here is the rest of the Top 5:

1 - West Virginia

2 - Montana

3 - South Dakota

4 - Michigan

5 - Wisconsin

This is sad, to think that people in West Virginia are thoughtlessly plowing into living things with their F-150's but there is a silver lining. We here in Connecticut, love animals so much that we were ranked #43. That's right the chances of hitting an animal in the Constitution State is 1 in 231. Our neighbors in New York did OK, they were ranked #35 with a 1 in 140 chance.

Now before you get upset and call me ignorant, I can read and did not misunderstand the study. I do realize nothing about this data indicates we love animals more, or that folks in West Virginia and driving into animals intentionally. That is just the way I am choosing to frame this. GO Connecticut! Hell yeah!

Other key findings:

Deer were the cause of 1.9 million car accidents this year.
Accidents involving deer are most common between October and December (mating season).
Deer v. Car incidents cause over roughly $4,000 in damage to a vehicle.

I love when Canadian Geese crossing the street causes like a 4 mile traffic jam. You're mad the whole time you're in the traffic jam until you get to the front and realize why there was a backup. And then you're all AHHHHHHHWWWW.

P.S. State Farm must not have too many customers in New Milford because deer strikes are like the #1 activity in New Milford. I lived in NM for 7 years and hit 12 deer per year on average, accidentally.

Danbury Resident Has Astonishing Close Encounter With Famous Moose

His name is Daryl Pitman, and he's a Danbury resident who recently had a super-close encounter with a moose that has become famous in the Greater-Danbury area. In the past few days this moose has been seen in multiple Danbury locations, it's been seen in Newtown, New Fairfield, Woodbury and even Pawling, NY to name a few.

I saw Daryl's pictures in a different moose related thread and reached out to him. I asked him to tell me more. I wanted to know if these photos were real? Did he take the pictures? Was this in Danbury? When was this? How did he feel. An excited Daryl got back to me with the following responses.

Greater Danbury Bobcat Sightings, Too Close for Comfort

This morning (4/28/21) on the Ethan and Lou Show we were discussing a viral video from North Carolina. In it, a couple was brutally attacked by a rabid bobcat but according to USA Today, they are going to be OK.

This sent me off on a tirade about bobcats because this happens to be one of my pet peeves. In the Greater-Danbury area, wildlife sightings are frequent and when one animal gets photographed, everyone piles on and says, yeah me too You saw a bear? I saw a bear!

I made the case that too many people are claiming to have seen bobcats recently, and with no proof. I said, look I know they are prevalent but they can't be around in the numbers that people will have you believe. Every Frank and Fran in the area says they saw one yesterday.

I said, if you saw a bobcat, prove it. It looks like I may have been underestimating the bobcats and the Ethan and Lou listeners because they did prove it and in a hurry. These are the Greater-Danbury Bobcat Sightings That are Too Close for Comfort.
