Hiker Found Dead in New Milford’s Lake Lillinonah
A Hiker who was reported missing late Sunday afternoon was found dead Sunday night at Lovers Leap State Park in New Milford.
A man hiking with friends was reported missing late Sunday afternoon after he left his group and was last seen heading down an overlook at Lovers Leap State Park. According to newstimes.com, a Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesperson is reporting that the man was last seen with his group at around 3:45 PM and was officially reported missing at 6:15 PM.
A number of agencies including the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Conservation Police, New Milford Police, the Water Witch Fire Company, and Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue assisted in the search for the missing hiker who body was discovered later Sunday night in Lake Lillinonah.
If you're familiar with Lovers Leap State Park, it's a great place to hike, but there are a number of very steep cliffs where one wrong step could be tragic. Apparently, according to the State Department of Energy And Environmental Protection, that's what happened that led to the death of this hiker on Sunday.
An investigation of the accident is undergoing, and the state's Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause and manner of death, therefore the man's identity has not yet been released.
