It's a big year for Southbury, Connecticut. The community is celebrating it's 350th anniversary in 2023. 2023 is going to be a busy year for Southbury quilters too, if the Southbury Arts & Subculture Committee has anything to do with it.

Community-sourced quilts are a great way to get hundreds of different perspectives into one cohesive project. The Southbury Economic Development Commission has just announced the town's plans for their own Community Quilt Project in honor of the Big 350.

Southbury is calling on its residents to contribute quilt squares that will be assembled and presented at the end of 2023, and they've announced the theme of the quilt - "Home Sweet Home Southbury".

Don't go quilt-crazy Newtown residents, according to the rules, you must be a current Southbury resident to participate. If you are, it's on. The Arts & Culture team will provide participants with a free, standard-sized, blank piece of fabric to quilt. You must send in a request to receive one, click HERE for the form. As I told you before, the theme is Home Sweet Home Southbury, and the committee is looking for quilts that represent what makes Southbury a special place to live.

There are some other simple rules as far as the materials you should, or should not use, and the Arts & Culture team is reserving the right to exclude submissions if you choose to not pay attention to the standards in place. There is no cost, and your submission should be completed by the submission deadline of September1, 2023.

I'm going to start my Adam Broderick/Denmo's/Lucas Local appreciation quilt right now.
