Services Announced For Connecticut Officer Killed Breaking Up Fight On Vacation
As reported earlier this week, Sgt. Matt Mainieri was on vacation when a fight broke out in a bar in South Carolina. He tried to break up the scuffle which cost him his life.
The Hartford Courant says that police officers and others from all over the country are expected to be in attendance at a public service for the 20-year-veteran of the South Winsor Police Department on Friday morning at The First Cathedral in Bloomfield. There will be another service also on Friday at noon at Holy Cross Church in Colchester, Vermont. After the funeral, Sgt. Mainieri will be buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington.
Last weekend's incident is still being investigated by South Carolina Police. The Georgetown Country Sheriff's Office is expecting additional charges for the 21-year-old man who was charged with assault for allegedly striking Mainieri in the head mulitple times. Kelton Jess Todd was released from Georgetown Country SHeriffls Office after he posted $35,000 bail.
