Maybe the 2024 election season took it's toll on your mental health and nerves, or maybe 2024 in general was just a stressful year.

Whatever the case may be, you deserve to relax!

National Stress Awareness Day

Every year, on the first Wednesday of November, National Stress Awareness Day is celebrated. It doesn't always fall on the day after an election, but it timed out perfectly in 2024.

According to the National Day Today website, National Stress Awareness Day is sponsored by the International Stress Management Association. They're a registered charity that promotes knowledge about stress and best practices for stress management.

Carole Spiers, the chairperson of ISMA, created National Stress Awareness Day as a way to increase public awareness and help people "recognize, manage, and reduce stress" in both their personal and professional lives.

Election Day Stresses 2024

For many, this election season was a stressful one. No matter what side of the aisle you're on.

According to a American University poll, 32% of American's ages 18 to 34 years-old were feeling nervous and scared about the election. Experts say these emotional reactions are bigger than generalized anxiety.

Georgetown University is concerned about their students anxiety levels, so much so that they are offering ‘mindfulness’ options that include coloring books, hot cocoa and LEGO for students to cope.

These election day stresses could lead to heart disease, weight gain and diabetes. After the 2020 election, hospitalizations for heart attacks, stroke and heart failure were up 17%.
