‘Plowable Snow Event’ Coming to Connecticut This Weekend May Bring 8+ Inches

As we head into the first weekend of 2024, we have to ask ourselves, "should I stop after work on Friday, or wait until Saturday morning, to buy bread, eggs, and milk?" According to our resident weatherman, we may be in for a 'plowable snow event' this weekend.

As of right now, Thursday January 4 at 11 AM, most of the Connecticut news stations have an organized outlook that we're in for anywhere from 3-12 inches of snow possible for all of Connecticut. The event is projected to start sometime Saturday afternoon/evening and last through the night until tapering off on Sunday morning. From most of the forecasts, it's going to be a typical event for Connecticut, with the higher amounts of snow falling the further North you are in state. So, you lucky shoreliners can expect a couple of slushy inches, while my place in Torrington will probably get buried under a foot of the fresh powder.

In all seriousness though, is it really a newscast leading emergency when we're expecting 2-12 inches of snow? The worst blizzard/snowstorm that I can conjure up from recent years was the Blizzard that dumped over 2 feet of snow on us on October 29, 2011. We lost power in Waterbury for 2 days during that storm, but the station and most of the greater Danbury area was out of power for over a week. Do you remember the lines at the gas stations? There were so many outages that most of the local places couldn't even power up. That was 2 feet of snow, and still, I remember getting on I-84 the very next day, and it was wet and bare.

Connecticut is super-equipped to handle 3-18 inches of snow any time at any day.
