New York Mets Pitcher Takes the Mound in Hartford Tonight

Ah yes, baseball, the "national pastime" and a pretty big deal in this part of the country. I was a huge fan growing up and went to see the Royals play in Kansas City as much as we possibly could from the late 70s up until the mid-90s. The strike in 1994 put a bad taste in my mouth for Major League Baseball and I am slowly getting back into it.

I have been to only one major league ballpark and never had the opportunity to see a minor league game anywhere. For any other baseball fan out there, especially if you are a Mets fan, tonight might be your night to make a journey to Hartford to watch a future Hall of Famer fan a few minor leaguers in a rehab start for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Max Sherzer, one of the biggest off-season acquisitions in New York Mets history, will make a rehab start just up the road in Hartford. Sherzer suffered an oblique strain in a game on May 18th, according to a Sports Illustrated article. His start was going to occur this past Sunday, but was pushed back to tonight for whatever reason, none was given. At this point, Max and the Mets want to take it nice and slow and avoid any kind of setback as best as possible.

The point of this article is not whether or not it is a good idea for Sherzer to pitch or not, it's the fact that he is pitching at a minor league park right here in our backyard. The game starts at 7:05. If you have the opportunity to take the kids for a night of minor league baseball, you should do it. He may only pitch two or three innings, but it would still be a nice chance to see a guy that is destined for the Hall Of Fame in a more intimate setting.
