New Milford Resident Warns of Toll Scam, Watch Out for ‘Cissy’

Recently I was scrolling through the New Milford, CT Facebook page for s---- and gigs and came across a post that I found to be quite funny. Jackie D.D. shared a post that read "Scam alert: this one actually says E-ZPass. The email address it came from made me laugh. Seriously people?"

Attached to the post was a screenshot of the text they received from "E-ZPass" that read:

"Your toll payment for E-ZPass Lane must be settled by March 14, 2025. To avoid fines and the suspension of your driving privileges, kindly pay by the due date. Pay here BOGUS ADDRESS. (Plese reply with "Y," then exit the text message. Open it again, click the link, or copy it into your Safari browser and open it.)" 

What funny email address was Jackie D.D. referring to? It was sent to her from cissytitelw0@hotmail.com.

Haha! It's amazing how much effort they put into the scam, only to fumble the ball at the 1-yard line. It's also enough work that the person (scammer) could have just gotten a legitimate job and scored a crime-free paycheck.

I love the idea of "Cissy" waiting for payment. They'll probably pop back up next week with a new email account, maybe something creative like jarjardrinks69@aol.com

Here's what I do to avoid getting roped into a financial scam. I don't pay bills, so anyone asking, in any form or fashion is ignored. If they want it bad enough, they can come find me.

Here are some of the comments Jackie D.D. got after she published the scam attempt:

Tony M: "I got a text regarding unpaid toll, I called and was told to delete it! Do not respond!!! Lots of scams going on ! Have to be careful."

Megan C.G.: "Thank you for saying that lol I’ve been getting this text, but I also travelled to New York without my EZ pass just recently because my son took it out of my car, so I was wondering if this was authentic or not!!!!"

Valentina S.K.: "Get them almost daily. Block them and they find another way. I know better but my concern is for those that are vulnerable to these scams. Thank you for posting." 

Mindy F: "I get about 3 a week. I have an E-ZPass account, so it was simple to go online and check the balance... and see there is no outstanding payment!!! It is crazy."
