New Jersey? Why Didn’t Greater New Haven Get a New Stew Leonard’s?

Connecticut's incredible homegrown grocery store is opening up their 8th store in Clifton, New Jersey in the Summer of 2024. We must keep the Stew's majority in Connecticut.

I love shopping at Stew Leonard's because they're an independent operation, with happy employees, and an incredibly diverse selection of the best imported and local products. Stew Leonard's first store opened in Norwalk in 1969. We now have 3. Danbury got the second in 1991, and the third opened in Newington in 2007. As home field, Connecticut got the original Holy Trinity of Stew Leonard's locations. Along the way, we let New York catch up in locations, New York also has a Holy trinity of Stew's. The first opened in Yonkers in 1999, the second in Farmingdale in 2016, and the third, East Meadow in 2017.

We face Garden State Holy Trinity equality Connecticut and New York, Stew Leonard's Paramus opened in 2019, and in the Summer of 2024 - the second Stew Leonard's location will open it's doors in Clifton.

Where should the 9th Stew Leonard's be built in Connecticut? I'd say the Greater New Haven area.  Two Stew Leonard's are located near Rt. 7 in Norwalk and Danbury, and the Newington Stew's is on 5/15 - Berlin Tpke/Wilbur/Merritt Parkway. Wallingford, Orange, Milford, Guilford, and Branford are all easy locations to tap into the Stew Leonard's pipeline. Waterbury is slowly turning into a food desert, maybe there? But no nice thing lasts long in the Brass City.
