How many times have you said to someone, "I wish there was an IHOP around here"? Well your wish has now been granted.

Get ready for the "International House of Pancakes", it's coming soon to Danbury.

Unfortunately, the new IHOP comes at a cost to one local restaurant, Pizzeria Mazzo Mozzarella and Wine Bar at 32 Newtown Road, which due to the pandemic's impact on the business, was forced to close it's doors.

According to newstimes.com, the restaurant opened in 2014 but was struggling during the COVID lockdowns and restrictions. The owner, Artan Ismaili claimed it was a bittersweet decision since he loved the business and the customers, but he did receive a good offer for the property from IHOP. He's now possibly looking to open up a new restaurant closer to his home in Shelton.

In a recent article that we posted in April, IHOP was listed as one of the the 10 Businesses that Greater Danbury Really Needs, now we can cross that one off our bucket list.

We reached out to Danbury Mayor Joe Cavo for a comment, and he confirmed with us that an IHOP will be taking over that location.

Right now, there are IHOP locations in Stamford and Waterbury Connecticut, and in New York you'll find them in Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, and Mohegan Lake.

In a mission statement on their website, the company explained what most of us already knew.

For 61 years, the IHOP family restaurant chain has served our world famous pancakes and a wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner items that are loved by people of all ages — offering an affordable, everyday dining experience with warm and friendly service. Everyday life has enough rules. Sitting down for a delicious, comforting meal shouldn’t have any. That’s why at IHOP®, you’re invited to be yourself and enjoy special moments with family and friends. And while we don’t have any official rules, we do have a few suggestions that are sure to make you smile.

Look for the transformation of the restaurant to begin sometime later this month.
