A Look Back at Naugatuck’s Peter Paul/Cadbury/Hershey’s Property
$18.8 million dollars in state grants were announced today by Governor Ned Lamont for the purpose of remediating 23 blighted properties in Connecticut, and one of my former favorite buildings in Naugatuck is among them.
The former Peter Paul/Cadbury/Hershey's manufacturing plant at 889 New Haven Road (Rt. 63) in Naugatuck closed for good in 2007, and since? Not much. There were rumors over the years of someone possibly being interested in the 36.2-acre property came and went, with nothing coming through. That may change as Naugatuck will receive $200,000 of that sweet grant money to fund a new assessment will be the first step for the site to come back to come form of life. Most of the other 22 properties that received grants appear to be destined to become mixed use residential and commercial properties after remediation. Here's the view of the property from the same vantage point captured by Google over the past 27 years.
