Listeria Warning for Connecticut Residents Who Love Chicken and Bacon
WARNING: Chicken. Bacon. Ranch. Listeria.
According to a recent alert from the USDA, certain ready-to-eat chicken and bacon wraps may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium that can cause serious illness in some people.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the warning on May 13, 2025, after a routine sample tested positive for Listeria. Although there’s no recall—since the affected products are no longer being sold—the concern is that some may still be in consumers’ refrigerators.
Yes, these products were sold in Connecticut. The USDA says they were shipped to stores in Connecticut, specifically Price Chopper and the Big Y.
Why it matters
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a potentially serious infection. It’s especially dangerous for:
- Pregnant women (can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection in newborns)
- Older adults
- People with weakened immune systems
- Lovers of freezer burned chicken wrapped in bacon Esque product (adults who play Minecraft).
Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, stomach issues, confusion, and even convulsions. If you’re in a higher-risk group and have eaten one of these products, especially if you feel unwell.
I love that tainted food can cause confusion. That is my favorite listeria symptom.
Concerned friend: "Hey man, what's the matter? You seem off."
Human with listeria pumping through their veins: "Yeah, I had a chicken, bacon ranch wrap."
Concerned friend: "Makes sense."
What Experts Say Should You Do?
- If you have any of these wraps at home—don’t eat them. Throw them out or return them to the store. Even if they look fine, Listeria contamination isn’t something you can see or smell.
What I Think You Should Do?
- Smell Everything Deeply. Be sure to take deep whiffs at the grocery store. Do not put anything in your shopping cart until you've smelled it for four consecutive minutes.
- Find the names of the relevant grocery store managers, friend them on Facebook and keep them apprised of your ever-changing bowel movements. I suggest frequent direct messages along with visual aids (pictures and videos).
- Panic.
- Ask strangers what their chicken-bacon ranch experiences are.
