Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton Team Up For Passionate ‘Say Something’ on ‘Fallon’
Fresh off his amazing show during Super Bowl LII, Justin Timberlake invited Chris Stapleton to join him for a live performance of their new track "Say Something" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Trading flash for simplicity, Timberlake and Stapleton delivered the song's subtle lyrics while playing in unison on guitar. "Everyone knows all about my transgressions / Still in my heart somewhere / There's melody and harmony / For you and me, tonight / I hear them call my name / Everybody says say something / Say something, say something" the superstar collaborators sang in harmony while backed by a humble horn section. Fallon taped his show live from Minneapolis following the big game on Sunday.
Fallon was just as impressed as the crowd was at the end of the performance, raving over the two as the crowd cheered with enthusiasm. "Say Something" is featured on Timberlake's new album, Man of the Woods, that also includes two other cuts by Stapleton, "Morning Light" and "The Hard Stuff." Stapleton also plays guitar during the opening of the album's lead single, "Filthy."
"I really just went out to Los Angeles to write songs with him. That was one of those things where there wasn't necessarily a plan," Stapleton tells Billboard of working with Timberlake on Man of the Woods. "He was like, 'Alright, you hop in there and take a verse.' I'm like, 'You want me to do what?' ... It came out great. I had a blast with him, he's a great creative force and one of those guys that if you get a chance to work with him, you should."
Stapelton picked up awards in each of the three categories he was nominated in at the 2018 Grammy Awards. The chart-topping From A Room: Volume 1 earned Best Country Album, while two of its singles, "Either Way" and "Broken Halos," won for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song, respectively.
