I Watched As Gas Prices Rose Ten Cents Before My Eyes
We all know gas prices are rising fast, but not until this morning did I realize how fast.
So I'm on my way to the studio, and I'm sitting at the Four Corners in Brookfield waiting for the light to change. My eyes are kind of locked in to the gas prices at the Shell station across from me on the electronic sign, when all of a sudden the sign blinks and the prices change. Bam....ten cents more in the blink of an eye.
Now as I said before, I knew gas prices are on the rise, but in one brief passing moment I saw the sign go from $3.59 a gallon to $3.69 a gallon.
Maybe it's a Monday thing, as prices usually change at the begginning of the week, but it was kind of freaky to see the jump happen right before your eyes.
So I wanted to see how much gas has jumped from just a week ago in the area, and according to gasprices.aaa.com, between last Monday and today (October 25), the current price for unleaded regular was $3.41 a gallon, compared to $3.50 this morning. The contrast is even greater when you look back a month when prices were at $3.20 a gallon, and if you go back one year, we were only paying $2.16 a gallon.
Forget about premium gas prices. In most places, they are hovering close to $4.00 a gallon.
Of course, some of the most expensive gas is found in Fairfield County where the average for unleaded regular tops in the state at $3.57 a gallon, as opposed to $3.44 a gallon in Litchfield County, $3.47 a gallon in New Haven County, $3.48 a gallon in Hartford and Middlesex Counties, $3.53 in New London County, and $3.49 a gallon in Tolland and Windham Counties.
If you're looking for some local cheap gas, as of this morning, Express Fuel in Danbury was selling unleaded regular at $3.29 a gallon, BJ's in Brookfield, who are usually always the cheapest around, was up to $3.32 a gallon, and Noble on Padanaram Road in Danbury was at $3.33 a gallon. So if you're looking to save a few cents, these are places to head to. But don't blink because the prices may change right in front of your eyes as well.
