I Was Shocked at the Pump Yesterday, Will it Get Worse?

We've been driving the high of pretty low gas prices for a while now, but will it come to a crashing halt soon?

I drive a small SUV, and my commute to work is 106 miles round-trip every day. Add my leaning towards a lead foot, and you know I fill up often. But the pain hasn't been too bad in the past few years, although when this past hurricane season was so bad, the gas pump prices rose, and never fully dropped back to how low they had been. Still, not a big hit to the wallet. I was shocked yesterday when I paid $2.85 a gallon for regular. Seems we are starting an upward trend.

Nobody knows driving habits quite like AAA, and here's the bad news directly from the horse's mouth. According to gaspricess.aaa.com, the $2.85 I paid on April 30th is going to be the more moving forward. AAA says that crude oil prices are at the highest level in more than three years and expected to climb higher.

The U.S. daily national average for regular gasoline is now $2.81 per gallon which is up from a year ago, when it was about $2.39. AAA's report also adds that across the U.S., there are numerous states where the price is $3 per gallon or more.

Certainly not the gas price woes that we've felt in the past, but all in all, not a good sign for the driving months ahead.
