Will you accept this Gold Medal?

Over the weekend the Special Olympics Hudson Valley chapter hosted the Hudson Valley Region – Regional Unified Basketball Competition on the grounds of SUNY New Paltz.

Special Olympic athletes took to the court to play some ball and they had some help from one reality show contestant.

Olumide Onajide was vying for the heart of Michelle Young on Season 25 of The Bachelorette on ABC. Sadly, Onajide didn't win Michelle's heart, which went to Nayte Olukoya (which didn't end well).

While he may not have ended up with Michelle, Olumide did end up winning in the Hudson Valley. The Bachelorette alum was spotted balling out with his friends on Team Anderson at the basketball competition.

He wrote:

Yesterday I got invited to volunteer at the HV Special Olympics unified tournament.

Our team “Anderson Blue Knights” won gold

Positive environment with talented individuals

Onajide is a former D-1 basketball player for Rutgers University in New Jersey.

The Bachelor and its Ties to the Hudson Valley

Onajide is one of many ties between The Bachelor franchise and the Hudson Valley. Former host of the reality dating show Chris Harrison threw some shade at Poughkeepsie in a podcast saying:

He's the guy that walks into the middle of a bar in Poughkeepsie and leaves with 5,000 friends. And there are only 2,000 people in Poughkeepsie."

In 2018 Monroe New York native, Kamil Nicalek was featured on Becca Kufrin's season of The Bachelorette.  His time on the show was short-lived after getting the axe after night one. However, he did get redemption later that year after heading to Bachelor in Paradise.
