Living in Downtown Danbury is so much fun. I really enjoy being able to walk to a Danbury Hat Tricks game in the winter or to Empire of the Incas in the summer and being a light jog away from the San Gennaro Festival is a blast.

The worst part about living Downtown is the complete lack of respect for basic traffic laws. People run red lights, double-park and weave in-and-out of lanes. I've seen some really absurd examples of some of the worst driving you can imagine. I once saw someone drive on the sidewalk, and just last week, I watched a guy intentionally drive south in the northbound lane of Main Street so he could make a U-turn.

I've been yelling and screaming about traffic enforcement for a while, and it now appears the city is taking the issue seriously. According to a (2/12/25) press release from City Hall, Mayor Roberto Alves announce a 50% increase in traffic enforcement from 2023 to 2024, contributing to an 8% reduction in traffic accidents.

Since taking office in December 2023, Mayor Alves has made road safety a top priority, responding to residents' concerns about speeding and unsafe intersections. Efforts to address these issues include adding stop signs, flashing lights, and strengthening the Danbury Police Department.

The mayor said:

“We’re proud to see that our investment and commitment to keeping Danbury residents safe has begun to prove itself,” said Mayor Alves. “

He added, a 50% increase in traffic enforcement is a huge step towards stopping the violations on our streets and making our communities safer. As a driver and a father, I recognize that this is a major improvement, but still not enough. We’re going to continue strengthening our police department, ramping up our traffic enforcement, and ensuring anyone who drives in our city has the safety of our roads and residents in mind.”

The Danbury Police Department’s Uniformed Services Bureau oversees traffic enforcement, focusing on accident prevention, impaired driving, and speeding.

Some of Danbury's Best Gas Stations When You Are in A Rush

Whether stopping for gas, getting a coffee or just grabbing a snack, gas stations/convenience stores should be convenient, but that is not always the case. Sometimes you wait in long pump lines, some gas station lots have an odd configurations, the staff can be slow to ring you out or you get stuck behind people buying 50 Lotto tickets. These Danbury gas stations have cracked the code, they don't fall into the common mistakes that make a gas station stop a headache. These are "Some of Danbury's Best Gas Stations When You Are In a Rush."
