Enjoy the Humidity Connecticut, Soon We’ll Have Ice
Summer 2023 seemed like it was never going to get here in May 2023, I wore my hoodie all the way into June. While the rest of the US baked in 90-100+ degree temps, Connecticut was suffering crop damage from freezing overnight temps. The real heat is finally here, enjoy it, but be careful.
It was a swampy start today, 68 degrees at 5AM on my ride in, but the nasty humidity is starting to soar in already. As of tomorrow (July 26,2023) temps and humidity are expected to soar into unhealthy levels. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has just announced that he is directing Connecticut's extreme weather protocol to be activated as of 8AM Wednesday, July 26 all the way into the weekend through 8AM on Sunday July 30. The forecast is calling for a brutal heat index through the next 5 days, with temps feeling like 95-105 degrees well into the overnight hours.
I'm approaching that age where I'm enjoying this heat and humidity more than the cold weather. I'm also lucky enough to be able to have fans and air conditioning at work and home. Those that don't are being reminded that Connecticut does have many cooling centers that will be open to give you a cool rest. They're easy to locate too, all you have to do is dial 2-1-1, or visit 211ct.org.
If you want to escape the heat, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos are two of my favorite places to cool off, as well as any Carvel in Connecticut, Quassy in Middlebury, or Lake Compounce in Bristol. Hold on, the cold weather is coming soon, it's only 5 months to Christmas.
