Explosion on Fairlawn Ave, Danbury

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported after an explosion on Fairlawn Avenue in Danbury early on Sunday morning.

The City of Danbury Fire Department reports that firefighters actually heard the explosion before the call came in to their headquarters just before 8:00am. The garage housed materials used for a glass blowing operaation. Within the two bays of the structure were tanks filled with hazardous materials such as oxygen and propane.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a substantial fire billowing from the detatched garage. The blaze became more of a challege to fight since Fairlawn Avenue does not have fire hydrants anywhere on the street. Three engine companies pulled a fire hose across 700 feet of backyards on Edgewood Street to get to the nearest water supply.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control and extinguished the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Danbury Fire Marshal.
