Weather: Connecticut + New York May Start to Heat Up a Little Earlier This Year
Summer won't officially start on the calender until June 20, but we may not have to wait that long before we start seeing some serious summer weather.
I guess we can almost safely say that the winter weather and snow is now behind us, but keep in mind that this is New England. If you like or don't like the weather, just wait five minutes.
Last Saturday was the first day of spring, and basically right on cue Mother Nature has gone into full spring weather mode, but will the nice weather last? The one question you really have to ask yourself is 'do I feel lucky?'
If you look ahead, and thanks to the Old Farmers Almanac we can do that, yes we have the technology, the extended outlook for April is for the weather in Connecticut and New York to turn unseasonably warm by the mid part of the month. That being said, the Almanac is also calling for a summer to be hotter than normal.
The almanac says to look for the first spring heat wave to happen by mid April, and it's predicting both April and May to be warmer and drier than normal. If we look ahead to when summer finally arrives, the almanac is calling for it to be hotter than normal with the heat really kicking in starting in early to mid-June, early to mid-July and early to mid-August.
In April, the warmer-than-normal weather is predicted between the 8 and 13 of the month, with average temps for the month expected to be about five degrees higher than normal, with those April shower totals expected to be close to an inch below average.
So what will this all mean for you? If you like it hot, you got what you asked for. If you're not a fan of the hotter weather, then just make sure your air conditioner is in good working order.
So just how accurate will this extended forecast be? Over the years, the almanac has about an 80% accuracy using a tride and true secret formula that dates back to 1792 and was created by it's founder Robert Thomas. Since it's a secret formula, we don't know too much about the methodology, but we do know it uses solar science, climatology, and meteorology to come up with it's forecasts.
