CT Named One of the Best States for Military Retirees in America

Connecticut does not have a great track record for retirees. Each year, there is a new report stating that retirees should look elsewhere to live out their golden years. But we may have some good news for one segment of that population, military retirees.

According to a brand new Wallet Hub study, the Nutmeg State was named one of the best states for military retirees in the country. In fact, Connecticut was right near the top at 5.

Here are the top 10:

1. Florida

2. South Carolina

3. Virginia

4. Minnesota

5. Connecticut

6. New Hampshire

7. Maryland

8. South Dakota

9. North Carolina

10. North Dakota

What about our Tri-State area neighbors? New York was #38 and New Jersey was #27.

You might be wondering how Wallet Hub arrived at these numbers? They looked at some key categories like:

Veterans per capita
VA Health facilities per number of veterans
% of Homeless vets
Job Opportunities for veterans
Housing affordability
% of veteran owned businesses

While CT did not have a Top 5 rating in any of those categories we also did not have a bottom 5 rank in any of those metrics.

It amazes me that we still hear horror stories from veterans who should be given the highest level of priority all across the country. These brave men and women sacrifice so much for the rest of us, they should be given the respect and honor they deserve.

I'd like to simplify the system and use the Rock Hound incentive structure. Rock Hound is a character from the movie Armageddon and the most likely architect of the list of demands the heroes made in that movie. Before agreeing to launch themselves into space and take on the risk of death, the fellas demanded the US Government:

Wipe out any outstanding parking tickets.
Bring back 8 track tapes.
Full week's Emperors Package to Caesar's Palace.
The identity of the person who killed Kennedy.
Be a guest at the White House for the summer.
Never pay taxes again.

In all seriousness, I believe veterans should live a tax free life. Is that really so much to ask?

The Danbury Hat Tricks and their fans celebrated their FPHL Championship win in dramatic fashion.
