Connecticut’s Premiere Dinosaur Destination Announces Reopening Date
Do you remember your first visit to Yale's Peabody Museum? I sure do. 1975, I was 6 years old, and my lifelong fascination with Natural History started right there. The Peabody has been temporarily closed for the past four years as the building has been renovated and transformed, good news, the re-opening date has finally been set.
You need some more good news mineral and fossil fans? When Peabody Museum re-opens to the public on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, admission will be free. For the time being, tickets have to be reserved online, and the first few weeks have already sold out.
What has happened during this four year renovation? The Peabody has completely been transformed. I've followed along on social media accounts as some of the new exhibits have been teased, and I'm most excited to take in the Burke Hall of Dinosaurs, the Age of Reptiles mural, and the spectacular Central Gallery. After I get sick of the triceratops skulls, I can't wait to see what Peabody has done with their Minerals, Earth, & Space exhibit. Meteorites, precious gemstones, and the most incredible rocks & minerals in shapes and colors that you could never imagine.
The Peabody Museum was founded at Yale in 1866, and named after it's financier George Peabody. Before this major renovation, the Museum was dimly lit, with stationary exhibits that hadn't been moved in over a century. The newly renovated Peabody, from the few images released to the public, is bright, airy, and finally ready to inform, inspire, and educate new generations of inquisitive kids, like me.
