The press release reads in part:

"On March 6, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., the Real Time Crime Center at Westchester County Police headquarters broadcast an alert that a vehicle wanted in connection with fleeing a traffic stop in Elmsford was traveling northbound on Oregon Rd into Putnam County. Multiple Westchester County PD agencies tried to stop the car, which failed to comply with a lawful order to stop, prior to entering Putnam County.

Narcotics Enforcement Unit investigators, who were in the area at the time, were able to locate the vehicle traveling northbound on Peekskill Hollow Rd. The vehicle then continued into the Town of Yorktown briefly, before traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway, in the Town of Putnam Valley.

The vehicle, which was unregistered and had switched plates, came to a stop on the Taconic State Parkway, just north of the Bryant Pond Road exit. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.

The vehicle’s operator, Sean P. McDermott, age 34, of Hoboken, NJ possessed a quantity of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest."

Multiple agencies worked in concert to arrest McDermott including: Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Westchester County Police, New York State Police, Carmel Police and Yorktown Police all assisted with the investigation.

McDermott faces the following charges in connection with his arrest:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree
  • Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree
  • Unlawful Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree
  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree

He was also hit with a variety of traffic related violations and faces issues in another state. According to the Putnam County statement McDermott has an outstanding bench warrant in Pennsylvania for failure to appear in court to face a drug charge. McDermott was remanded to the correctional facility, pending extradition to PA.

This is the second time in as many weeks we are hearing about methamphetamine encroaching on our local area, that is scary.

Vacant Putnam Lake Properties

Putnam Lake is a Hamlet of the Town of Patterson In Putnam County, NY. Originally, the community was a vacation getaway for city folks who wanted Lake property in the country. Today, it’s not any kind of weekend or destination getaway but a great place to live, I would know, I grew up there. Like any small town, Putnam Lake, NY has its setbacks. It’s difficult to open any business and even harder to keep the doors open. These are some of the long vacant commercial properties of “The Lake.”
