How Patriotic is Connecticut?

Patriotism is defined as the quality of being patriotic; devotion to and vigorous support for one's country. I think we should all have that quality in abundance.

So how does Connecticut stack up as a patriotic state? It might seem like a silly question to try and answer, but the folks at WalletHub gave it a crack — and we were, well, as the kids say, “mid.”

WalletHub looked at a variety of factors to come up with a patriotism score for each state. These included: the average number of military enlistees, veterans per capita, Peace Corps volunteers per capita, the percentage of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election, and overall volunteer rate.

In the end, there were winners — and there were losers.

Here are the Top 10 Most Patriotic States, according to WalletHub:

  1. Virginia

  2. Montana

  3. Vermont

  4. Colorado

  5. Oregon

  6. Washington

  7. North Dakota

  8. Maryland

  9. Minnesota

  10. New Hampshire

Where did CT land? We came in at #29. And our neighbors in New York? A sad #49. We can do better, folks — we are better than this. Get outside and sing America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee) today.

I remember singing that song in the roundhouse at JFK Elementary School in Brewster, NY. That memory is burned into my brain forever.

The Ethan, Lou & Large Dave Show - Podcast - Apple Podcasts

Back then, as a kid, I had zero interest in standing still and singing anything. But looking back, I’d give anything to stand arm-in-arm with my classmates and do it every morning as adults. Sure, it would be a logistical nightmare — we'd have to fly people in from all over, and I’d probably be late for work for the rest of my life — but some things are just worth it.

So, if you ever see me at the roundhouse at JFK with my hand over my heart, don’t call the police. I’ll leave when I’m done with my song.

12 Signs You're a True American 'Tough Guy'

Our culture morphs and those shifts mean certain types of behavior have an expiration date. What you once thought was "cool" or "tough" may make you look like a straight up D-bag now. The problem is, when our culture pivots, not everyone gets the memo.

You could find yourself in a room with someone born in the 60's, another in the 80's, a man who was born in the 90's and another in the 2000's, they are all going to have different ideas about what makes them a man.

What makes you a "tough guy" today? For starters, the term itself is a punch line, if someone calls you a "tough guy", they are picking on you. This list was supposed to be titled "Top Signs You're a Raging Douche" but my editor nixed that, so these are the "Top Signs You're a Real Tough Guy."

24/7 Wall Street conducted a study to uncover America's worst pizza. They scoured the internet for negative pizza reviews and compiled a list using the following method:

"consulted pizza reviews from five different food blogs and websites. Given the subjective nature of pizza preferences, we only included pizza chains that consistently ranked near the bottom across multiple sites."

After their investigation, it was revealed that the title of worst pizza in America belongs to three locations right here in Connecticut. Let's count down from 5 to 1 as we reveal the state's most disappointing pizzas and identify their locations.
