Brookfield COVID-19 Cases Spike as Schools Reopen
Just as Brookfield schools are scheduled to return to in-person learning, the school district has been reporting a spike in cases over the last week.
It's definitely not how it was planned out two months ago when Brookfield went to full time online classes due to the pandemic. Now here we are, January 19, and the students are returning to classes in the midst of another COVID-19 spike in the district.
According to newstimes.com, the school district reported new cases each day over the last week, and on Friday (Jan. 15), that number quadrupled.
Brookfield Superintendent John Barile reported three new cases last Monday, but the number was up to 12 by Friday (Jan. 15), with 9 more new cases reported.
The district has a tracker for COVID-19 positive cases and that number was climbing up to 20 with 17 being students and the other three being staff members. There are also 14 students who are in quarantine after having been exposed due to close contact with someone in the community or in their family.
Given the fact that there are an alarming number of new positive cases and with full time in person learning returning today, Superintendent Barile said his office along with the Brookfield Health Department and the district's Medical Adviser will be carefully monitoring the situation as schools finally re-open.
