How Ann’s Place Helps Breast Cancer Patients, Survivors and Their Families
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to make sure our listeners were aware of all the great, free services Ann's Place offers not only breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families but those affected by any kind of cancer.
According to the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative, an estimated 3,490 women in our state were diagnosed with breast cancer last year. "Female breast cancer is the leading cause of new cancers in the state," the organization states.
Ann's Place is ready to help cancer patients and their families with programs including:
- Support groups, including groups specifically for survivors' family members, men only, women only, seniors, young adults, parents, newly diagnosed patients and survivors who have completed treatment.
- Wellness activities such as yoga, creative arts, nutrition programs, horticulture therapy and Reiki
- Short-term counseling
- Meditation and guided imagery
- A variety of online and telephone-based resources
In light of the coronavirus outbreak, Ann's Place is offering many services virtually to promote healthy social distancing. Here's a look at these efforts:
All in all, Ann's Place serves 1,200 to 1,300 people a year who never pay a dime. The average cost of services is $910 per person, which is covered by donations. Ann's Place receives no government funding and their services are not covered by insurance so community support truly is vital.
And if you, a friend or a loved one might benefit from help from Ann's Place, don't hesitate to call them at 203-790-6568 or visit them online at annsplace.org and facebook.com/annsplaceinc.
